Hello, I’m Tara Walker and my background is in Mental Health Nursing (Registered Mental Health Nurse). I have over 26 years of experience working within the NHS in Adult Mental Health and Specialist Psychological Therapy Services

I have an Honours Degree in Social Psychology from the University of Loughborough and a Diploma of Higher Education in Mental Health Nursing from the University of Portsmouth.

I am a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) Therapist and can assist individuals with a wide range of difficulties. EMDR is a comprehensive psychotherapy that can help you process and recover from past experiences that may be affecting your mental health and well being today. It can help you see things from a different perspective and relieves symptoms that you may be suffering with. It is a way of kick starting your natural healing and recovery process after trauma or adverse life events. It can also help prepare for future challenges. EMDR is best known for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but there is increasing evidence that it can also be effective in helping with a wider range of problems. I am very passionate about this therapeutic approach, having seen the truly significant changes it can make to people's lives.

I am also trained in Emotion Freedom Tapping (EFT) which is a mind and body approach, helping to regulate the nervous system aiming to decrease cortisol levels and distress.

Additionally I am trained in Flash Technique, which is a non-distressing, rapid technique for reducing the disturbance associated with distressing life events.

I recognise you may feel some apprehension about seeking help and I therefore endeavour to help you feel welcomed and supported. I feel it is key that you feel comfortable with, and able to work collaboratively with your therapist, in a safe environment and I ensure that you have choice at every step along the way from our very first meeting.

I am able to therapeutically support clients with the following:

  • PTSD - Single Trauma and more Complex Trauma
  • Bereavement or Loss
  • Phobias or Fears
  • Obsessional Compulsive Disorder
  • Sleep Problems including nightmares
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship Issues
  • Low self esteem or lack of confidence
  • Addictions
