I am Emer Young, a Mental Health Nurse with over 25 years’ experience working with adults in the NHS.  I have an Advanced diploma in Mental Health Nursing and a degree in Psychological Interventions for Psychosis and Severe Mental Illness, both from Bournemouth University.

My 25 years of NHS experience includes a variety of roles within inpatient and community settings. Currently I work as a Psychological Therapist in a specialist Psychological Therapy service for the NHS.

I am trained in Eye movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a structured therapy that enables people to heal from symptoms of Trauma and Emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life events. EMDR helps you process and recover from these experiences that are affecting your mental health and enable you to see things from a different perspective.  It aids in relieving the symptoms you were suffering as it supports the natural healing of the brain and body.

I understand accessing therapy can be a big step. I feel confident that my approach during your treatment will provide a safe and confidential space to allow you to feel comfortable which will enable us to work collaboratively towards your goals and recovery.

I work with adults who might be experiencing difficulties with:

  • PTSD – Single trauma and more Complex trauma
  • Depression / Low mood
  • Anxiety
  • Phobias and Fears
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Sleep problems – including nightmares
  • Addictions
